This style guide is the synthesis of an analysis of 37 publicly available content and writing style guides – including Apple, Google, Microsoft, Mailchimp, Atlassian, Splunk, GitLab, MDN, and WCAG. From 1,636 extracted rules and 321 verbatim quotes, it distils a compact, immediately usable reference for tech and content teams.
The guide covers 17 topics: scope, voice & tone, clarity, inclusive language, accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA), grammar, punctuation, numbers and dates, formatting, document structure, code conventions, UI content, terminology, global audience, AI content, pro tips, and a pre-publish checklist.
Where the industry disagrees, we make explicit decisions and mark them as Our rule – with the opposing position documented. Where an insight from a single guide is particularly strong, we adopt it as a Pro tip with source attribution.
The file is written in native AsciiDoc and can be opened, customised, and exported directly in adoc Studio. Tables, admonitions (NOTE/TIP/IMPORTANT/WARNING), quote blocks, and an automatic table of contents are already configured in the document header.
You will find the accompanying study about methodology and findings in the adoc Studio blog.
